Howdy! It's Uncle Paul! Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disease that affects more than 12 million people worldwide. It is the fourth leading cause of kidney failure. Cysts develop on the kidneys until they are no longer able to function, and the only options of treatment are dialysis or a kidney transplant. PKD is a devastating disease that adversely affects the quality of life, especially for children. The PKD Foundation is dedicated to finding treatments and a cure, and it relies on private donations.
PKD has affected most everyone in my family. My Mother, my Brother, Aunts, and many Cousins inherited the disease. I did not inherit the disease and feel a powerful obligation to do my part to eradicate the disease. The best way I can do that is by raising funds for the PKD Foundation...and you can help.
My first effort to raise funds is by Thru-Hiking the Appalachian Trail to bring attention to PKD and the great work of the PKD Foundation. My journey will begin on June 1st. You will be able to follow my progress on this page, as well as my Facebook page ( facebook.com/fatunclepaul ) and my YouTube channel ( youtube.com/c/BlessingOfAdventure ). Please consider making a donation and sharing this event with others.
My goal is to raise $25,000 by the time I complete the thru-hike.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you on the trail.
